Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded the title of Hero of Russia to a fighter from South Ossetia, Radislav Khugaev, the head of the South Ossetian state Alan Gagloev said at the concert of the choreographic dance group "Iron" in Tskhinval.
Alan Gagloev put forward this initiative during a meeting with Vladimir Putin.
"On May 9, at the invitation of President of the Russian Federation, we were taking part in the parade in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory.
During one of the meetings, I told Vladimir Vladimirovich about our fellow countryman, Vladislav Khugaev, who had heroically died during the special military operation, defending his comrades," Gagloev said.
He has noted that he had asked the President to award Khugaev the honorary title of Hero of Russia.
“I have now been informed that the honorary title has been awarded,” the President has noted, expressing gratitude to Vladimir Putin.
Radislav Khugaev died on March 27, 2022, during the special military operation of Russia in Ukraine. Having fallen into an ambush with his fellow soldiers, Radislav called down fire on himself, thereby giving his comrades the opportunity to escape.
In September 2024, a monument to Khugaev was unveiled in Kvaysa.
