South Ossetia is commemorating its defenders: flowers were laid at the places of the heroes' deaths

A ceremony of laying flowers and wreaths at the placrs of the Republic's defenders' deaths during the Georgian aggression in August 2008 was held in South Ossetia.

The event was attended by the Republic's leadership headed by President Alan Gagloev, Russian Ambassador to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov, representatives of the ministries, departments and law enforcement agencies, as well as the public.

The laying of flowers began at the shelled barracks of the Russian peacekeepers.

Here, the Republic's leadership also laid flowers at the monument to Lieutenant Oleg Galavanov, call sign "Amur".

Hero of Ossetia Oleg Galavanov died heroically in August 2008. Thirty-two-year-old Galavanov was serving in the intelligence service of the Defense Ministry of the Republic of South Ossetia.

He was posthumously awarded the highest state award of the Republic of South Ossetia, the Order of Uatsamonga, for courage and bravery shown during the 2008 war.
