About two thousand South Ossetian citizens are participating in the special military operation in Ukraine, the Republic's Foreign Minister, Akhsar Dzhioev, stated in the interview with the RIA Novosti.
"The number of citizens participating in the special military operation is quite significant for the small population of South Ossetia. It is approximately two thousand people. For us, this is a significant figure, as Ossetians are a small people," Dzhioev said.
He has emphasized that the South Ossetian citizens are participating in the special military operation as a sign of respect for Russia and gratitude for its support.
"We are confident that victory will be Russia's and ours," the Minister has emphasized.
In September, the South Ossetian Ministry of Defense, together with the DPR authorities, awarded approximately 30 South Ossetian volunteers participating in the special military operation.
Last October, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in a conversation with Dzhioev, expressed gratitude to the Republic's leadership for its position regarding the special operation. He noted the assistance the South Ossetian side is providing to fighters and residents of the conflict-affected regions. Lavrov emphasized that the Republic's President, Alan Gagloev, was personally committed to providing humanitarian assistance to the victims.
