The creation of the 4th Guards Military Base of the Russian Defense Ministry is the result of joint efforts by South Ossetia and Russia to protect sovereignty and ensure security, South Ossetian President Alan Gagloev at the ceremonial rally in Tskhinval dedicated to the 17th anniversary of the unit's formation.
According to the presidential press service, the ceremonial rally was also attended by Russian Ambassador to the Republic of South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov, Acting Commander of the 4th Guards Military Base Radzhab Aliev, Acting Defense Minister of the Republic Yuri Yarovitsky, and other officials.
In his speech, the head of state congratulated the servicemen, veterans, officers, and soldiers of the base, having emphasized that over the past years, this military unit has become a key factor in the stability and security of the region.
"The base has been reliably protecting the territorial integrity of South Ossetia, maintaining peace and stability in the South Caucasus, and contributing to socio-economic development of the Republic," he said. Alan Gagloev has noted that the interstate agreements that followed the recognition of the Republic's independence laid a solid foundation for alliance symbolized by the 4th Guards Military Base.
The President emphasized the defensive nature of the Russian military presence, noting that it was thanks to this that the Republic was able to open a new chapter in its history—the era of restoration and creation.
"Both Russians and South Ossetian citizens serve shoulder to shoulder at the base, which is a manifestation of true military brotherhood," Gagloev said.
