South Ossetia paid its last respects to its hero, 25-year-old soldier Alexander Bestaev, who died heroically in the line of duty during the special military operation.

The memorial service was attended by the Republic's leadership, led by President Alan Gagloev, Russian Ambassador to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov, his comrades, relatives and friends.

Adressing those present, Alan Gagloev has emphasized that the Republic deeply empathizes with each such loss.

"Today, each of us is sharing this grievous loss with Alexander's family. Unfortunately, this year we have had to bid farewell to very young soldiers more than once. Alexander was fighting fearlessly, demonstrating exceptional courage on the battlefield. "He left behind a fond memory among his comrades, honorably fulfilling his duty as a warrior and defender," the President said.

Russian Ambassador Marat Kulakhmetov has noted that today they are bidding farewell to the warrior who gave his life for our shared peace and freedom.

"Such people are few, and we should rightfully be proud of them. These are true heroes who glorify the land of Ossetia with their courage. What they do on the front lines is only possible for people with big hearts," Kulakhmetov said.

By decree of the head of state, Alexander Bestaev was posthumously awarded the "Defender of the Fatherland" medal.

The young defender of the Fatherland is survived by a young daughter.
