Тhe resolution on refugees and displaced persons from South Ossetia and Abkhazia, initiated by Georgia, once again demonstrates a blatant disregard for reality and the imposition of a one-sided position that ignores the true causes and consequences of the events, the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry stated, commenting on the document adopted yesterday at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.

"Unfortunately, this once-respected international forum has in recent years become a vehicle for Georgia's destructive policies against the Ossetian and Abkhaz peoples.

The deliberate silencing of tens of thousands of victims and hundreds of thousands of the Ossetian and Abkhaz civilians expelled during ethnic cleansing is nothing more than an attempt to justify the criminal policiy of the Georgian nationalism.

"We are forced to acknowledge that Georgia, by politicizing the refugee issue in the absence of the South Ossetian and Abkhazian parties, continues to exploit the UN platform to advance its political interests, manipulating historical facts and attempting to portray itself as the innocent victim," the statement of the Foreign Ministry reads.

The Ministry has noted that such actions by the Georgian regime, captivated by its "phantom pains" following the peace enforcement operation of August 2008 and attempting to ignore the objective reality, increasingly demonstrate the correctness and immutability of the Republic of South Ossetia's historical choice to comprehensively strengthen its allied relations with the Russian Federation.

"The adoption of documents divorced from reality does not contribute to the resolution of existing problems, but only creates new obstacles to sustainable peace and security in the region.

We express hope that the international community, represented by the United Nations, will ultimately be able to look at the situation objectively and abandon politicized approaches that only exacerbate the existing problems," the Foreign Ministry concluded.
