Рeople of South Ossetia will always be grateful to the people of fraternal Venezuela for recognizing the Republic's statehood, the South Ossetian Ambassador to Russia Znaur Gassiev said during a meeting with the Venezuelan delegation on the sidelines of the 29th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The delegation of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela was led by Ricardo Menendez, Vice President for Planning and Minister of People's Power for Planning, according to the press service of the South Ossetian Embassy in Russia.
"During the meeting, the parties emphasized their mutual interest in continuing friendly ties and expressed their readiness to continue a dialogue and develop long-term relations," the press service quoted the Ambassador as saying.
Gassiev hasnoted that the noble determination of Comandante Hugo Chávez will forever live in the memory of the Ossetians as a great friend and a man with boundless love for his homeland and the people of the Republic of Venezuela.
Ricardo Menéndez also emphasized the importance of relations between the two friendly nations.
"Venezuela particularly appreciates friendship and diplomatic cooperation. Hugo Chávez always supported those who were right, and the people of South Ossetia won the heart of Comandante Hugo with their unity and pursuit of justice," the head of the Venezuelan delegation.
The meeting was also attended by Venezuelan Minister of People's Power for Tourism Daniella Cabello and Venezuelan Ambassador to the Russian Federation Jesús Rafael Salazar Velázquez.
