President Alan Gagloev laid a wreath at the monument to the special police unit (OMON) of the South Ossetian Ministry of Internal Affairs perished defending the approaches to the southeastern outskirts of Tskhinval, the presidential press service reports.
"On June 7, 1992, during another assault on Tskhinval by the Georgian neo-Nazis, the OMON officers put up fierce resistance. Six members of the unit were killed during the battle.
The memory of Stanislav Gabaraev, Zurab Gubaev, Gennady Dzhabiev, Yuri Kozhukhov, Alexander Mikhailenko, and Grigory Sanakoev is honored as examples of courage and selflessness," the statement reads.
The OMON Commander Alim Gabaraev, current members, and veterans of the Republic's OMON took part in the ceremony.
