Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova held a working meeting with her South Ossetian counterpart, Inal Tasoev.
The main topic of discussion was strengthening cooperation between the two countries' human rights institutions amid the new stage of integration. Yana Lantratova has written about this on her Telegram channel.
"The historic Treaty of Deepening Allied Cooperation signed on May 9 takes relations between Russia and South Ossetia to a new level of rapprochement.
The document provides for the unification of legislation in the areas of labor, pensions, and social support, which places a special responsibility on human rights defenders in both countries," Lantratova said.
During the meeting, the parties agreed to launch an emergency communication mechanism between the ombudspersons' offices.
"The need to establish a direct channel is driven by intensive humanitarian ties: more than 500 Ossetian students are currently studying at the Russian universities, and citizens of the Republic regularly travel to Russia for medical treatment or work. A new format for operational interaction will allow for more effective protection of their rights," she has noted.
The conversation focused on joint efforts to protect citizens affected by past military conflicts in South Ossetia, as well as the search for missing persons.
Lantratova expressed her full readiness to share her accumulated experience and use Russia's federal human rights resources to provide comprehensive support to her South Ossetian colleagues.
