"Today is a day of memory and sorrow for all the people of Ossetia - 29 years ago, on the Zar road, the armed forces of Georgia shot a convoy with refugees. One of the most bloody and inhuman acts took the lives of 33 civilians in South Ossetia.

The pain of this tragedy continues to this day.

The grand opening of the Memorial Complex to the Defenders of the Fatherland is taking place in the capital of South Ossetia.

The dialogue with South Ossetia is quite well established and we intend to jointly solve the existing problems, said Deputy Minister of Economic Development Sergei Nazarov during the working meeting in Tskhinval on the issues of socio-economic cooperation between the Russian Federation and South Ossetia.

The first international cultural and educational conference with the participation of representatives of Transnistria, Abkhazia and South Ossetia was held on May 13 under the patronage of the State Service for Culture and Historical Heritage of the PMR.

According to the official representation of South Ossetia in Transnistria, the main goal of the conference, which was held online, was to establish creative cooperation between the educational institutions of an artistic orientation.

On Thursday thousands of people laid flowers and wreaths at the monument to the victims of the tragedy in the village of Zar in Tskhinval district of South Ossetia.

Exactly 29 years ago, on the Zar road, Georgian gangs shot 33 civilians, including women, old people and children.

The exhausted civilians, women, children and old people left the besieged Tskhinval hoping to wait out the war in a safe place, but along the road, which was called the Road of Life, they were brutally shot by the Georgian fascists.
