South Ossetia must significantly reduce its technological gap. This was noted by the Republic's President, Marat Kambolov, following a meeting with Maksut Shadaev, Minister of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Media of the Russian Federation.

Kambolov has emphasized that the Republic has a significant advantage in this regard: it can use solutions already developed and tested in Russia, without spending years developing its own system from scratch.

"Today, digital infrastructure is as fundamental to the country's development as roads and energy. Communication quality, business operations, education, public services, and governance efficiency depend on it," the head of state has ritten on his Telegram channel.

Kambolov clarified that during the meeting with Maksut Shadaev, specific areas of joint work had been discussed.

Priority tasks include creating the Republic's own data processing center, developing fiber-optic infrastructure, and modern mobile communications.

"A large block concerns government services. Our goal is to convert the most in-demand services to electronic format and gradually create a fully-fledged system of digital interaction between individuals and the government. So that obtaining a certificate, submitting an application, or contacting a government agency takes minutes, rather than requiring multiple trips to offices," Kambolov has written

He also announced plans to introduce electronic journals and diaries in schools and expand access to a modern digital educational environment.

Another objective, according to Kambolov, is to create a unified system of official websites for state and local government bodies, as well as modern digital management tools for key areas of the Republic using Russian solutions.

"We separately discussed the mechanism for electronic public voting on the distribution of budget funds. Residents will be able to determine for themselves which projects in their cities and districts should receive priority support. Together with Russian agencies, we will prepare a unified plan for the digitalization of South Osseia," Kambolov said.

The President has emphasized that the scope of work is extensive, "but it cannot be postponed any longer."

"We need to create a modern digital infrastructure now, so that in a few years South Ossetia will have a completely different level of communications, government services, education, and governance. This is one of those projects whose impact should be felt by everyone," Kambolov has concluded.
