Minister of Internal Affairs, Lieutenant General of Police Alan Guchmazov, held a meeting with representatives of the Main Directorate for Migration Issues of Russia, who arrived in the Republic to implement the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin on a simplified procedure for the admission of citizens of the Republic of South Ossetia to Russian citizenship, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.

"During the meeting, the parties discussed in detail the implementation of the document and agreed on the action plan aimed at ensuring the convenience and efficiency of providing citizens of the Republic with services for acquiring Russian citizenship.

According to the decree, all adult citizens of South Ossetia who had this status by August 26, 2008 have the right to acquire Russian citizenship," the statement of the press service reads.

Applications for admission to Russian citizenship can be submitted without the requirements of permanent residence in the territory of the Russian Federation for five years, proficiency in Russian, knowledge of Russian history and the basics of Russian legislation.

Information on the schedule of reception of citizens by employees of the Main Directorate for Migration Affairs of Russia, as well as the place of submission of documents will be published after the completion of organizational procedures.
