South Ossetia is actively preparing for its first major economic forum, which is designed to attract investment and demonstrate the economic potential of the Republic in the international arena.
The Trade Representative of South Ossetia in Russia, Taimuraz Goginov, noted during the press conference that the forum, held by decree of the President, is a critical step in the context of global changes and the Republic's desire to actively participate in the international economic cooperation.
"The decree of the president on holding the forum is a response to the challenges of the time. We see economic growth, the emergence of new projects, the creation of jobs, and this forum is the opportunity to consolidate success and attract new investments," Goginov has emphasized.
Preparations for the forum include active interaction with the Russian partners.
"We are expecting guests from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, industrialists and entrepreneurs. We hope that during our forum, the Russian Export Center will hold its exhibition here, its fair, which they hold in different countries “Made in Russia,” the trade representative has shared.
Goginov emphasized the importance of covering the forum in federal media.
“We are counting on extensive coverage in the Russian media in order to attract the attention of investors and show the potential of South Ossetia. It is important for us to cover the forum so that this event is on the big Russian agenda,” the speaker has noted.
The forum will be held in the Olimp Sports Palace, built by the Alina Kabaeva Foundation.
“This is also symbolic for us. The Alina Kabaeva Foundation was the first to come to the wounded South Ossetia and support it. We will use this platform and hold our event there,” the trade representative said.
The forum program includes not only a business part, but also an extensive cultural and gastronomic program to demonstrate the wealth and hospitality of South Ossetia to guests.
"We are trying to create not just a business event, but also to show the guests the beauty and uniqueness of our region, so that investments are made not only out of calculation, but also out of love for South Ossetia," Goginov said.
In addition to attracting investments and creating new jobs, he outlined another of the forum's objectives - changing the negative stereotype about doing business in the Republic among the successful entrepreneurs of the South Ossetian origin working abroad.
"We want to change the established idea about doing business in South Ossetia and inspire successful businessmen from the Republic, but working abroad, to return and invest in their native land. One of such striking examples who volunteered to support the forum was Eduard Bagayev. He is one of the outstanding South Ossetian businessmen. Thank him very much, he was the first to respond and said that he would definitely come and support us," he said.
The trade representative emphasized the importance of demonstrating the security of investments for potential investors.
As a guarantee of investment security, Goginov reminded the Republic's law on investment activity, which ensures complete security of investments by Russian investors in the economy of South Ossetia.
Thus, legal and judicial protection of investments is guaranteed at the highest level, which should significantly increase the attractiveness of the Republic for investors.
