The South Ossetian Foreign Ministry representative in Italy, Mauro Murgia, took part in the memorial events commemorating the 46th anniversary of the terrorist attack at the Bologna train station.
In 1980, the explosion at the station killed 85 people and injured over 200, becoming the largest terrorist attack in Italy's modern history. In memory of the victims, August 2 was declared Remembrance Day for the Victims of All Mass Murders in Italy.
According to the press service of the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry, other representatives from Ossetia also participated in the ceremony, as in previous years, underscoring the long-standing ties between the regions.
A significant event was the inaugural ceremony of the International Peace Prize "Beslan – City of Peace," established in 2026 on the initiative of Mauro Murgia.
The first laureate of this prestigious award was the Association of Relatives of the Victims of the August 2, 1980, Terrorist Attack in Bologna. The prize is awarded for exceptional contribution to preserving peace and helping children and those in need.
International relations between Beslan and Bologna have deep roots. After the tragic terrorist attack at the Beslan School No. 1 in September 2004, Italian specialists and families were among the first to provide assistance to the victims and their families. Joint participation in commemorative events has since become a tradition, strengthening bonds of solidarity and mutual understanding.
