The Abkhaz President Badra Gunba discussed strengthening interstate and fraternal relations with a South Ossetian delegation led by Prime Minister Konstantin Dzhussoev.
Badra Gunba thanked South Ossetia for its support and emphasized the importance of jointly celebrating Victory Day and Independence Day of Abkhazia, the Cabinet press service reports.
"Over the years, fraternal relations have developed between our peoples; we always feel this fraternal warmth. We have recently attended the Republic Day celebrations in South Ossetia, and the Ossetians greeted us as brothers. The holiday we celebrated together yesterday is Abkhazia's main national holiday. "Victory was achieved at the cost of thousands of lives of our compatriots, volunteers, and people who did not stand aside during the tragedy that occurred 32 years ago on our soil. This holiday is sacred to each of us, and it is very pleasant to have our brothers by our side on such significant dates, especially since you know firsthand the difficult path we have gone through. ," Badra Gunba has noted.
President of Abkhazia asked that heartfelt gratitude be conveyed to the South Ossetian President Alan Gagloev on behalf of the leadership and people of Abkhazia.
"On behalf of the people of Abkhazia and on my own behalf, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the people of South Ossetia and to President Alan Gagloev. I would like to take this opportunity to extend the invitation to Alan Gagloev to visit Abkhazia at any time convenient for him," Badra Gunba has emphasized.
South Ossetian Prime Minister Konstantin Dzhussoev thanked President of Abkhazia for the invitation and warm welcome.
"We are sincerely pleased to be in our fraternal republic. Our peoples are united by a common history. We are always with you, and we always will be. It is gratifying to see Abkhazia developing; we see the positive changes taking place here. The peoples of South Ossetia and Abkhazia are united in their pursuit of prosperity and peace. I would like to convey greetings from the Republic's President, Alan Gagloev," Konstantin Dzhussoev has emphasized.
During the meeting, issues related to strengthening interstate relations were also discussed.
The parties noted the significance of the agreement on trade in goods signed at the first International Economic Forum in South Ossetiam having emphasized that this document will provide additional impetus to cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting was attended by Ibrahim Gasseev, Minister of Civil Defense, Emergencies, and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters of the Republic of South Ossetia; Nikolai Gagloev, First Deputy Head of the Tskhinval City Administration; Alina Parastaeva, Chief of Staff of the Government of the Republic of South Ossetia; and the South Ossetian Parliament members Azamat Bekoev, Soslan Gagiev, and Spartak Tomaev.
Representing the Abkhaz party were Prime Minister Vladimir Delba and Speaker of the People's Assembly of the Republic of Abkhazia Lasha Ashuba.
