The development of bilateral relations with Nicaragua and Venezuela is a priority of South Ossetia's foreign policy, the head of the Republic's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Akhsar Dzhioev has noted during the press conference.

He emphasized the importance of Nicaragua's contribution to the recognition of South Ossetia.

"After 2008, Nicaragua, after Russia, recognized the independence of South Ossetia. Of course, in our communications with the Nicaraguan colleagues, we always note their contribution, their noble determination, despite the difficult situation, pressure and other aspects, to take this step," Dzhioev said.

He has noted that relations with Venezuela are assessed similarly.

"These are two countries that currently have diplomatic relations with us, that have recognized us, and it is extremely important for us to maintain and develop relations with these countries," the Minister stressed.

As the example of close and friendly relations with Nicaragua, Dzhioev spoke about his participation in the ceremonial events on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution.

"Last year, Nicaragua celebrated the anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution. Comandante Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo received us very warmly. They highly appreciate the issues of self-determination, the issues of the struggle of any nation, and it is also important for them to maintain relations with us and we will be developing them," Dzhioev has noted.

According to him, interaction with Venezuela is also being actively supported.

"Recently, I attended the event in Moscow dedicated to the 214th anniversary of Venezuela's independence. The meeting with the Venezuelan Ambassador to Russia took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere. We intend to continue developing our relations,” the Foreign Minister has assured.

The Minister shared his plans to participate in the events dedicated to the next anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution.

“the events in honor of the 46th anniversary of the revolution will be held next week. Although for objective reasons the South Ossetian delegation will not be able to go to Nicaragua, we plan to participate in the events that will be held in Moscow. We strive to develop relations not only with Nicaragua and Venezuela, but also with other Latin American countries that share our values,” he said.

Dzhioev has concluded that the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry understands that developing relations with Latin American countries is associated with significant difficulties due to the geopolitical situation, the economic situation and other factors.

However, despite these challenges, the department is determined and ready to continue working in this direction.
