The Georgian Foreign Ministry, following in the wake of NATO countries' approaches in assessing aggression against South Ossetia, continues to mislead its own people and the international community, the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry stated.
The South Ossetian Foreign Ministry called the Georgian Foreign Ministry's statement on the "18th anniversary of the 2008 Russian-Georgian War" calling on Russia to end the "illegal occupation of its territories" illogical.
"We once again draw the attention of the neighboring state's Foreign Ministry to the unacceptability of distorting obvious facts," the Foreign Ministry stated.
It has been reminded that just the day before, Georgia's political leadership, represented by Kobakhidze, officially recognized the former Georgian President Saakashvili as the perpetrator of military aggression.
"In fact, this was known from the very beginning, and South Ossetia has been declaring it for the past 18 years.
It is also quite clear that Saakashvili is not alone in his guilt. As head of state, he had a mandate to speak on behalf of the Georgian state, to issue criminal orders, and to pursue anti-Ossetian and anti-Abkhaz policiey.
Therefore, responsibility for the August 2008 war must be borne by the country as the subject of this policy, including the figures in the Saakashvili regime, as the objects of his policy," the Ministry continued.
History is familiar with such examples, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.
"We consider the assessments set forth in the Georgian Foreign Ministry document to be extremely biased and out of touch with reality. It is precisely thanks to Georgia's 'peace-loving' policy that more than 100,000 ethnic Ossetians have been expelled as a result of ethnic cleansing since 1989."
"Thousands of victims and broken lives, blockade and destruction, more than a hundred missing Ossetians, whose fates the Georgian authorities remain silent about—this is the true face of the Georgian peace," the Ministry has noted.
For South Ossetia, Russia has been and remains a reliable guarantor of security, and the bilateral relations being built have a solid legal foundation, the Foreign Ministry stated.
"We call on official Tbilisi to abandon attempts to interfere in the affairs of other countries and to adopt a more constructive position, including in the work of the International Discussions on Security in Transcaucasia (IDS) format," the Foreign Ministry has noted.
