The notion of a "common homeland" does not stand up to historical scrutiny, and the obsessive use of terminology about the so-called occupation is devoid of both legal and political logic, the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry stated, commenting on the speech of Irakli Kirtskhalia, head of the Georgian Dream faction.
"Irakli Kirtskhalia's speech at the opening of the autumn session of the Georgian parliament, during which he declared that 'Georgians, Abkhazians, and Ossetians have a common homeland and a common future' and called for unification to 'build a strong, sovereign, and peaceful state,' was not a surprise," the Foreign Ministry has stated
They noted that such "conciliatory" rhetoric, which periodically appears in Georgia's political discourse, is aimed exclusively at a domestic audience and, as practice shows, is completely unrelated to reality.
"It is completely unrelated to the actual steps of the Georgian government, which reflect the essence and meaning of its true intentions.
This is evidenced by official Tbilisi's continued attempts to counter South Ossetia, including at the International Discussions on Security in Transcaucasia, where the Georgian party persistently avoids signing a legally binding document on the non-use of force against South Ossetia," the Ministry has emphasized.
People of South Ossetia have learned the true cost of the "Georgian neighborliness" and are well aware of who their true ally and guarantor of security is, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continued.
"The Russian Federation's recognition of the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Republic of Abkhazia in 2008 is a reality that must be accepted and taken into account, first and foremost by the Georgian leadership," the Ministry has concluded.
