The State Security Committee (KGB) of South Ossetia announced the completion of the case against the Georgian citizen Giorgi Uznadze, detained in March of this year for illegally crossing the Republic's state border.
On Tuesday, after serving a six-month sentence, he was released and handed over to the Georgian side.
According to the KGB, on March 17, 2026, South Ossetian border guards detained a 31-year-old resident of the village of Samtavisi in the Kaspi Municipality.
It was established that the intoxicated offender intentionally crossed the state border of the Republic of South Ossetia with Georgia near the village of Orchosan in Leningor District.
On April 17, 2026, the Leningor District Court found Uznadze guilty of committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 322 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, "Illegal Crossing of the State Border."
He was sentenced to six months' imprisonment in a general regime penal colony.
The KGB once again warns that all possible entry points for the border violators are within the control zones and sectors of influence of the South Ossetian border forces.
The agency has also reminded citizens of the functioning "hotline" through which they can report suspicious individuals or incidents.
