South Ossetia is grateful to Russia for its contribution to ensuring the Republic's security and considers international discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia the important format. This was stated by the South Ossetian Foreign Minister Akhsar Dzhioev during the meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.

"We are grateful for the assistance Russia provides to South Ossetia. Thank you very much for the positive actions, repeatedly confirmed in words and deeds, to ensure South Ossetia's security. We will, of course, continue to communicate through international discussions. This is the important format, in which Russia, South Ossetia, and our Abkhaz friends participate, through the mediation of international organizations," Dzhioev said.

The South Ossetian Foreign Minister has emphasized that bilateral relations between Russia and South Ossetia are based on strong agreements between the two countries. "This foundation is expanding and strengthening," TASS reported Dzhioev as saying.

International discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia have been holding in Geneva since 2008, with the participation of Abkhazia, Georgia, Russia, the United States, and South Ossetia, mediated by the UN, EU, and OSCE special representatives. The work is traditionally conducted in two working groups: one on security and one on humanitarian issues. The Geneva discussions remain the only platform for dialogue between Sukhum, Tbilisi, and Tskhinval.
