South Ossetia commemorated the Russian heroes perished repelling the Georgian aggression

The leadership and representatives of the Russian Embassy in South Ossetia and the Russian military base laid flowers at the monuments to servicemen who had perished in 2008, the diplomatic service's press service reported.

The event was organized ahead of the Defender of the Fatherland Day.

"Russian Ambassador to the Republic Marat Kulakhmetov, the Embassy staff, and the leadership and servicemen of the 4th Russian Military Base took part in the flower-laying ceremonies on the occasion of Defender of the Fatherland Day," the press service has noted.

The ceremony participants have visited the memorial at the Russian peacekeeping battalion barracks, destroyed during the 2008 Georgian aggression, and the monument to Heroes of Russia, Majors Denis Vetchinov and Vladimir Yedamenko, who died in 2008 while repelling the Georgian aggression.
