Тhe South Ossetian Foreign Ministry stated the need to comply with international law to quickly de-escalate the situation around the Islamic Republic of Iran and return the situation to the negotiating track. This was stated in the message released by the Foreign Ministry on Sunday.
"Due to the sharp deterioration of the military and political situation in the Middle East caused by the US and Israeli air strikes against Iran, against the backdrop of diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis that took place the day before, the situation in the region is characterized by the extremely high degree of instability.
The attacks have resulted in numerous casualties among the Iranian civilians, including among the country's top political and military leadership. The death of its Supreme Leader Ali Khomeini has been confirmed," the Foreign Ministry statement reads.
The Ministry has noted that, in response to the aggressive actions, Iran announced attacks on a number of the US military bases and military and intelligence infrastructure in Kuwait, northern Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, and Israel.
"Such progressive escalation of the situation also threatens a humanitarian and economic catastrophe in the region, which, among other things, contains nuclear energy facilities.
The current state of emergency will inevitably affect foreign citizens visiting the Middle Eastern countries for private business or tourism.
For the information of citizens of South Ossetia and Russia who may be or are currently in the countries of the region and who have encountered difficulties transiting or departing, please contact their airlines as a matter of urgency to clarify the status of their flights and possible alternative routes," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated.
They added that it wass important to follow the recommendations of Russian diplomatic missions in these countries and local authorities.
