A round table on the topic of "A Unified Approach of Young People to Counteracting the Falsification of History" was held at the Russian House in Tskhinval. The event brought together representatives of the diplomatic corps, the scientific community and young people.
Opening the round table, Igor Terziyan, Advisor to the Russian Embassy in South Ossetia, emphasized the particular relevance of the issue under discussion.
"The topic is very important and very relevant. Those who are involved in this issue know very well that especially during the period of preparation and celebration by our country and the entire large Russian world of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, there were all sorts of fabrications about this, how our common history was turned upside down," he said. "Even Trump, for some reason I remember his words: he said that the Russians had helped America win this war. That is, everyone wants to attribute it to themselves, especially the Americans have succeeded in this, and in every way to downplay the significance and role of the Soviet people, the Soviet soldier in this Victory."
Terziyan called on young people to turn to verified sources of information.
"Our common task is to convey to the younger generation the historical truth, so that the Internet is not a source of knowledge, not Wikipedia, but the original sources – the books by participants in the events, photo documents. So that people know this information from the original source," he has emphasized.
He has noted that information always comes first in the modern world.
"Whoever owns information owns the world. And if we own the right information,. We won't be afraid of anyone, we'll be able to do anything. Therefore, I urge young people to treat our history with care, to know it, to understand it and to continue to study it," Terziyan has noted.
He has also expressed gratitude to the Russian House in Tskhinval for providing the venue, to the South Ossetian State University and personally to rector Vadim Botazovich Tedeev, as well as to the faculty who took an active part in holding the round table.
The head of the Russian House in Tskhinval Sergey Komissarov also expressed gratitude to all the participants and emphasized the inevitability of historical facts.
"The topic of historical truth is very important and relevant. We know that history is a science that does not accept the subjunctive mood, and we know that history is something that has actually already happened and should be transferred from generation to generation based on the fact," he said.
Sergey Komissarov noted the danger of the influence of numerous sources of information and the importance of understanding the current events.
"It has been noted that now there are many sources that influence minds, influence consciousness, including historical aspects and understanding of certain processes that took place in the past. And, of course, historical truth concerns not only the pages of our history that relate to the Great Patriotic War, to the Second World War, it is still being made by history. And now we must understand what is happening and how it is happening,” Komissarov continued.
He also emphasized the key role of the professional historical community.
“The leading role in education is played by the professional historical community, which studies history not just through Telegram channels and some statements,” the head of the Russian House in Tskhinval has noted.
Komissarov placed special hope for the future on the young generation of historians and the role of the media.
During the event, reports were presented covering key aspects of the problem of falsification of history: “Falsification of history as a threat to national identity”, “Historical memory and the problems of falsification of the history of the Great Patriotic War”, “Ukraine in the Great Patriotic War”, “Falsification of the results of the Great Patriotic War”.
