South Ossetia expects the Georgian police post located near the village of Uista to be dismantled soon. This was stated by the head of the South Ossetian delegation, Yegor Kochiev, following a meeting within the framework of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM).
According to Kochiev, the issue of the illegal presence of the Georgian post is regularly raised by the South Ossetian party at the IPRM meetings.
He has noted that, despite the complexity of the issue, the work is underway.
"There are serious hopes that this Georgian post will be dismantled and withdrawn from the South Ossetian territory," Kochiyev has stated.
He pinned these hopes on reports from the Georgian side, including statements by the Georgian leadership that the deployment of the checkpoint was a "serious mistake."
"Perhaps this is an internal political struggle in Georgia, but the very fact that the Georgian leadership is raising this issue and admitting that the deployment of the checkpoint was a mistake may inspire certain hopes," Kochiev has added.
Overall, the head of the South Ossetian delegation has noted that the situation on the border remains calm and predictable.
