The question of recognition or non-recognition is the sovereign right of each party, the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry stated, commenting on the Georgian Foreign Ministry's statement on the situation in Venezuela.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry has expressed hope that the events in Venezuela will lead to the Caracas reversing its "illegal decision" to recognize the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

"The decision of the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, which responded to the requests of the governments of South Ossetia and Abkhazia for recognition, following the Russian Federation and the Republic of Nicaragua in confirming the international legal personality of the Republic of South Ossetia, is beyond question," the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry stated.

The Ministry has emphasized that the legality of the Venezuelan leadership's decision is not subject to debate and, moreover, does not require assessment by the third party, which, following the international commission investigation, was recognized as the aggressor against South Ossetia for the events of August 2008.

"Our relations with the Latin American country are based on international law and are enshrined in the bilateral agreements.

South Ossetia continues to maintain contact with its Venezuelan colleagues and expresses hope for a speedy normalization of the situation," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has noted.

Instead of "reading tea leaves," we call on Tbilisi to be constructive and recognize the existing political realities in the region, which would contribute to strengthening peace and security, the Ministry has concluded.
