Strengthening ties with the key Latin American partners – Nicaragua and Venezuela – is a priority for the Republic. This was stated by Akhsar Dzhioev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia.
According to the Minister, despite the geographical distance and international pressure, relations between the countries remain very warm, and the partners confirm the steadfastness of their commitment to recognizing the Republic's independence.
Dzhioev has noted the courageous stance of the leadership of Nicaragua and Venezuela, which were among the first to recognize South Ossetia's sovereignty, following the Russian Federation in 2008.
"In both cases, both the Nicaraguan and Venezuelan sides reaffirmed their commitment to the previously adopted decisions. This status quo remains unchanged. "We are grateful for such a courageous approach: despite the pressure being exerted, nothing will change in the policies of these two countries toward us," the Minister has stated.
According to Dzhioev, given the significant distance between the countries, the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry plans to actively implement modern formats of interaction. The Minister announced the plans to develop regular online contacts, which will allow for prompt coordination with Managua and Caracas.
"There are specific plans for the online interaction. In the 21st century, technology allows to remain in constant contact, despite the distance. We plan to actively implement this practice with both Nicaragua and Venezuela," Dzhioev said.
The Foreign Minister has emphasized that South Ossetia will continue to make every effort to infuse the interstate cooperation with practical content.
"It is very important for us to maintain and develop relations with the Latin American party. We will seek new opportunities to ensure that our cooperation is based on real action and produces tangible results." "The work is going on," Akhsar Dzhioev has concluded.
