The representative office of the Russian Historical Society in South Ossetia is actively working to preserve historical memory and prevent historical injustice, Roman Gobozov, chairman of the representative office's youth club and head of the student council at the South Ossetian State University has noted.

"Our club was created last April by the representative office of the Russian Historical Society, headed by our University's rector, Vadim Tedeev," Gobozov said.

According to him, many forces are currently attempting to denigrate the Soviet people's contribution to Victory in the Great Patriotic War and World War II.

"Today, the West is trying to rewrite history, seeking to deprive us of the heritage and memory of what our ancestors endured." Preventing such injustice is one of the main goals of the Russian Historical Society and the youth club in particular.

Such work is vitally important," he believes.

The Russian Historical Society was re-established in the traditions of the pre-revolutionary Imperial Russian Historical Society on June 20, 2012.

Its founders has included 27 leading Russian educational, scientific, and cultural institutions, including the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Lomonosov Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University, MGIMO, the State Historical Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Hermitage Museum, the Russian State Library, and many others.

To date, the RHS branches have been established in more than 70 regions of the Russian Federation.

According to its Charter, the goal of the RHS is to unite the efforts of society, the state, scholars, and history buffs to foster a pan-Russian historical culture based on the objective study, reporting, and popularization of Russian and world history, and the preservation of national memory.
