The fundamental principles of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance between South Ossetia and Russia, further developed with the signing of the Treaty of Alliance and Integration, fully reflect the historical traditions of friendship and good-neighborliness between the two peoples and serve as a solid legal basis for the stable development of the South Ossetian-Russian relations.
This was stated in the message by the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry in connection with the seventeenth anniversary of the signing of the Treaty.
The Foreign Ministry has noted that dozens of bilateral documents signed on the basis of the treaty are currently in effect, ensuring reliable and effective regulation of comprehensive cooperation between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation.
On September 17, 2008, presidents of South Ossetia and Russia signed a Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance between the countries, which marked the beginning of the modern era of interstate relations between the two countries and created conditions for expanding bilateral dialogue and interaction in all areas.
