South Ossetia's Ambassador to Russia, Znaur Gassiev, sent the appeal to the international community in connection with the 35th anniversary of the Ered tragedy.

According to the Embassy's press service, the documents were sent to the heads of all diplomatic missions accredited to the Russian Federation, as well as to the Georgian Interests Section at the Embassy of Switzerland.

The appeal highlights the tragedy as part of a long line of unpunished criminal acts and genocide against the Ossetian people committed by Georgia.

The Ambassador has reminded that March 18, 1991, is a sad date remembered with bitterness in the Republic due to the monstrous tragedy. On this day, the Georgian government once again committed a brutal crime against the Ossetian people.

"35 years ago, near the occupied South Ossetian village of Ered, the Georgian armed gangs, intoxicated with fascist ideology, blocked a convoy of civilians heading to the city of Tskhinval. The unarmed peaceful Ossetians became the victims of this barbaric act," the statement reads.

The men, women, and children were subjected to physical violence and abuse.

"The women and children were miraculously rescued from captivity, but twelve men, the youngest of whom was nineteen years old, had their arms and legs broken, their bodies cut, and their fingernails and toenails torn out. The mutilated men were thrown into a pre-dug pit and buried alive," the statement reads.

Such hateful actions must be met with the strong condemnation of the international community, the Ambassador has emphasized.

The statement has also noted that South Ossetia once again calls on all progressive forces to consolidate their efforts in the fight against fascism, which, unfortunately, is currently receiving support, including at the state level.
