The Georgian authorities created the propaganda myth of the so-called occupation after the events of August 2008 and continue to stubbornly convince the international community of this.
This was stated in a comment by the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry spokesperson regarding the Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili's statement that restoring diplomatic relations with Russia is impossible "under the conditions of Russia's occupation of part of the Georgian territory."
The Ministry has emphasized that this statement once again demonstrates the illogical position of the Georgian leadership, which continues to express categorical rejection of the current political realities.
"It should be reminded that the political decision to recognize the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia by Russia, which is fully consistent with international law, is not subject to revision. It followed the operation to force Georgia, as the aggressor, to peace," the Foreign Ministry has noted.
They has also reminded that Russia's position on South Ossetia has been and remains unwavering, and the continued strengthening of friendly South Ossetian-Russian relations and integration ties fully meets the national interests of both countries.
"Official Tbilisi should accept and acknowledge the current reality and demonstrate greater constructiveness, including in the international discussions, which would undoubtedly contribute to strengthening regional security and stability," the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry has concluded.
