On June 20, the 106th anniversary of the tragic events of 1920, a nationwide minute of silence was held in South Ossetia in memory of the victims of the genocide of the Ossetian people.

At exactly 12:00, life stopped for one minute throughout the country. Institutions closed their doors, drivers stopped their vehicles, and passersby stood still in tribute to the victims.

On this day, residents of Ossetia commemorate the events of June 1920, when the Georgian National Guard launched a large-scale offensive on Tskhinval. The attack resulted in the burning and destruction of dozens of Ossetian villages, mass repressions, and the killing of civilians. On June 20, 1920, 13 participants in the Ossetian national liberation movement were executed.

According to historical records, tens of thousands of Ossetians fell victim to those events. More than 100 villages were completely burned down, and over 50,000 people were forced to leave their homes and become refugees.
