Wreaths and flowers were laid at the "Museum of Burnt Souls" in the village of Tbet in Tskhinval district.
The Republic's leadership, headed by President Alan Gagloev, the Russian Ambassador to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov, members of Parliament headed by Speaker Alan Margiev, representatives of the ministries, departments and law enforcement agencies, the guests and residents of the Republic came to honor the memory of the innocent victims.
The "Museum of Burnt Souls" is the open-air museum, representing a circle framed by cars mangled by shells, in which people died, the Orthodox cross and a central monument - the "Tree of Sorrow" - are installed in the middle of the site.
Here in August 2008, dozens of refugees from Tskhinval were killed, fleeing from the Georgian shells that eventually reached them at this place.
The Republic's leadership also honored the memory of the Heroes of Ossetia Amiran Bagaev and Azamat Dzhioev.
The laying of the wreath took place at the monument to the heroes erected at the place of their death.
On August 8, the commander of the reconnaissance group of the Defense Ministry of South Ossetia Amiran Bagaev and several of his fellow soldiers - nine people in total - blocked the path of the Georgian soldiers who were trying to break through to Tskhinval from the west. According to the eyewitnesses, the enemy column numbered more than 500 people.
The task was accomplished - the enemy was stopped, but Bagaev and his comrade Azamat Dzhioev (Panther) died in this battle.
Both were posthumously awarded the highest military award of South Ossetia - the Order of "Uatsamonga".
Flowers and wreaths were also laid at the monument to the heroes of the resistance to the Georgian aggression - Vilen Chibirov, Viktor Tadtaev and Vladislav Gazzaev.
